Philippina Frimpong appointed to serve on CAT women in sport commission

The Secretary General of the Ghana Tennis Federation (GTF) Philippina Frimpong, has been appointed to serve on the Confederation of African Tennis (CAT) Women in Sport Commission.

The CAT Executive Committee at a meeting on Saturday 25 January 2020 at the headquarters in Tunis appointed Miss Philippina Frimpong as  a member of the  recently established CAT Women in Sport commission oversee the development of women's  participation  at all levels of the game in Africa. 

Miss Frimpong who doubles as the Women Commission Chairperson for the Ghana Athletics Association will be working with some of Africa’s finest administrators on the committee for the development of Women in Tennis.

The Committee which will  operate until 2021 will be chaired by Mrs. Salma Mouelhi-Guizani from Tunisia and have Mrs. Rashika Aboushousha from Egypt,  Mrs. Sallah Adjoa from Togo, Mrs. Aida Baira of Algeria, Ms. Fatime Kante of Seychelles and Mrs. Wanjiru Mbugua Karani from Kenya as members. 

Miss Frimpong, the Executive Director of the Women in Sports Network Gh, has been championing the inclusion and participation of young girls and women in all aspects of sports for the past four years  through their flagship programme" be her inspiration project"  which organizes the annual 'Girls' Camp'  have utilized sport as a tool to mentor young girls in their effort to combat teenage pregnancy.

This appointment is  a fitting appreciation of Miss Frimpong's efforts and is a feather in her cup.  it is anticipated that this new frontier will be captured by her.

Benjamin Fumi is through to the semi-finals of the Friday Night Tennis Challenge after defeating Clement Alisi in a two straight sets at the Ghana Tennis Club, Adabraka. Fumi beat Alisi 6-4, 6-0 in an hour and 10 minutes.  Tennis Professional of Ghana (TPG) no.9 ranked Clement Alisi replaces injured Benjamin Palm. Alisi started strongly against former TPG No.1 Fumi, racing through the opening set with some powerful serves but Fumi stepped up to 5-4 and then served out the first set 6-4.  Fumi opened up to a 4-0 lead in the second set as Alisi could not find an antidote to Fumi’s aggressive play. Tennis Foundation Ghana joins forces with UTR to help Ghanaian players

In keeping with their promise to help develop Ghana Tennis, Tennis Foundation Ghana (TFG) has joined forces with the Tennis Digital Platform giant, Universal Tennis Rating Inc. Universal Tennis Rating  (UTR) is a global  tennis  player rating system intended to produce an objective, consistent, and accurate index of players' skill in  tennis . UTR rates all players on a single 16-point scale, without regard to age, gender, nationality, or location of a given match. All professional players in the  Association of Tennis Professionals  (ATP) and the  Women’s Tennis Association  (WTA) have UTRs, as do most college players and many  junior tournament players  worldwide, as well as many adult league and tournament players. The UTR database includes results from more than 8 million matches and 200+ countries. Cedric Dzelu rallies past Pascal Ziyab in the Friday Night Tennis Challenge

Cedric Dzelu beat 2015 Ghana’s Davis Cup player Pascal Ziyab to win his Friday Night Tennis Challenge social grudge match.  Cedric who doubles as a Ghana Tennis Federation executive board member won the much-anticipated match 6-3,1-6,10-7 at the Ghana Tennis Club, Adabraka. Speaking to  ghanatennis.org  Cedric said, 'It's very Special playing against one of the best players in Ghana and I am happy to win’.  Cedric had been the better player in the opening set only for Pascal to level things up to a 3-3 but Pascal's level dropped and Cedric took advantage of it and won 6-3. Pascal did not panic and with just one unforced error in the second set compared to the first set going 4-0 in 15 minutes and wrapped up the set soon after.
