Ghana wins bronze at 2020 BNP PARIBAS World Team Cup Africa Qualifiers.
Ghana wheelchair tennis team placed 3rd in the just ended 2020 BNP Paribas World Team Africa Qualifiers in Nairobi, Kenya. The team arrived this morning at the Kotoko international airport.
The wheelchair women team opened their campaign with 3-0 win over Cameroon and lost to host nation Kenya 0-3. The team qualified into the semifinals after placing second in group A. The team wrapped up their campaign with another three straight win over Egypt.
Aside from emerging as the third place team, Ghana's impressive display saw the women team seal 2020 BNP Paribas team Cup World Cup slated for May. The team made up of Abdul Razak Nuhu (Men’s captain), Daniel Laryea “Lorlor”, Bridget Nartey (Women’s Captain), Stacy Konadu Mensah and led by Coach Philip Plange.
Speaking to ghanatennis.org, Ghana wheelchair coordinator Henry Larbi expressed delight at the performance of the players stating that the federation’s commitment to the development of the game particularly at this level will be sustained with renewed vigour.
The Tournament saw strong teams from Kenya, Tanzania, Cameroon, Egypt, Morroco, Nigeria, and South Africa who were battling for just 1 slot for both Men and Women Team to participate in the upcoming 2020 PNB Paribas World Team Cup Finals to be held in Portugal later in the year.
Since 2014, this has been Ghana Wheelchair Tennis’ best performance and 1st International trophy for winning bronze prize.
